-Description:
After creating a snapshot of a CIFS shared filesystem, I am unable to view the snapshot
as a Volume shadow copy from a Windows client.
--------------------------------------------------
-Steps to recreate:
1. Create a CIFS shared filesystem. Mount from a Windows CIFS client and write some data to it.
2. Create a manual snapshot of the filesystem.
3. From the Windows client, right click the share and select "Properties"
At this point, I would expect there to be a "Previous Versions" tab in the properties window for the filesystem, but there is not. By default, the ".zfs/snapshot visibility" property is set to "Hidden" for shares, so I tried setting ot to "visible". This does allow the .zfs folder to become visible in the share as expected, but does not fix VSS. I also tried unmounting/remounting the share with snapshot visibility=visible, but the behavior remained the same.
Doing the equivalent of this using VSS from a Windows server (Creating a shadow copy on a drive, sharing the drive and mounting it for another CIFS client) client does yeild a "Previous Versions" tab and accessibility to the shadow copy.
Also of note is the fact that when attempting to enable VSS on the appliance's CIFS shared filesystems from the management console of a Windows client, CIFS shares are not a visible in the volume selection window. Only local drives and iSCSI LUNs are listed as available.
