Description 
o Log in to snv_46 using gdm. 
o Click on Launch menu. No menu appears and gnome-panel dies, then another appears. 
  It is not possible to logout.

o The problem does NOT appear if logging in using dtlogin.

Work Around 
Do not use gdm. Use dtlogin, (which is default anayway).
