At the performance desktop hackfest, we noted that someone who was running xmag on a Sun Ray was causing excessive CPU consumption, about 25% of a CPU for Xsun (though we saw much higher at one point), and 10-15% of a CPU for xmag. The issue was correlated to having the selection box, which at the time looked like marching ants, on the screen.
It was later determined that it wasn't drawing marching ants, but rather drawing the rectangle so quickly that it was showing up as a flicker on the screen.
